Today is the day

that I quit smoking.

I've been smoking since I was seventeen, so that is roughly about 5 years now. It is such a filthy habit.

I woke up this morning to an empty pack and I told myself, "You will not buy another one...ever...again." So that was that. I'm at work now, fiendishly chewing on gum. I'm having a hard time focusing (hence why I am here). Here are the reasons why I am quiting smoking. Hopefully, I will refer back to this list in the next three or four days to remind myself during bouts of cravings.

The Reasons Why I Quit Smoking:

  1. I want to live as long as possible. I want to live as long as possible so that I can knit as much as possible and live a happy life.
  2. I don't want to have cancer. I saw what my mom went through, and she didn't even smoke. Simply put, I want to reduce my risk.
  3. I hate the way I smell. I never noticed it, but being a smoker stinks.
  4. I hate coughing up phlegm in the morning. It's totally gross.
  5. My cat really hates that I smoke. Whenever I light one up, she just looks at me with these big sad eyes and I imagine her thinking "Oh Mom, don't you know that's bad for you?!".
  6. My boyfriend and I are pretty competitive, He quit last year, and I want to show him that I can too.

  3. I've been a not smoker for 6 1/2 years ( I smoked for7). Quitting was a lot of hard work. I chewed nicotine gum for about 8 months, and finally weaned myself off that. Still, after all that time, I'll get these huge rolling cravings for a butt- usually after a good meal. I also have dreams where I'm smoking a cigarette, and really enjoying it, and then I realize that I shouldn't be smoking and I get really guilty!

Take care and stay strong! It's so worth it! You will be amazed at how good you can feel! How light your lungs can be!

  4. These are all great reasons and I'm so glad you have these thoughts! I read that you fell off the wagon, but don't worry. You obvious want to quit, and that's half the battle, right? Don't beat yourself up over it. Start out fresh and new the next time you have an empty pack! :)
